
Artifacts
The Frank and Virginia Williams Collection of Lincolniana consists of approximately 12,000 artifacts, statuary, prints, paintings, broadsides, ephemera, photographs, philately, collectibles/miniatures, and numismatics. Materials are housed in 20 map case drawers, 30 cartons, and a variety of loose statuary, prints, and paintings. The collection also includes nearly 100 original manuscripts and the Claude Simmons collection which consists of approximately 12 bankers boxes of Lincoln related materials and scrapbooks. There are also approximately 15,000 books, journals, and pamphlets separated into two collections: the Lincoln Book Collection and the Civil War/Collateral Book Collection.

Steel engraving: "Battle of Atlanta..." This work was likely removed from "The Century Illustrated Monthly Magazine" Volume 34. The foreground of the image has depictions of destroyed houses and soldiers. There are also signs of damaged railroad lines. Trees and other shrubbery are depicted as heavily damaged. Many soldiers are depicted, several still fighting.

Gen. Kearney's Charge at the Battle of Chantilly, VA.

The black and white engraving features a scene from the Battle of Chantilly, where General Philip Kearny was killed in action. The image depicts Kearny on horseback as Union troops and an American flag follow him into battle. Confederate soldiers stand at his front with their guns pointed. The engraving appears to have been removed from a bound volume as evidenced by the binding holes at the engraving's top edge.

Battle of Lookout Mountain, GA.

In the black and white steel engraving, a scene from the Battle of Lookout Mountain is depicted. This battle took place on November 24th, 1863 and resulted in a Union victory. The engraving features Union soldiers climbing a mountain slope. One has fallen to the ground, possibly because he is wounded. In the background, battle lines and smoke are pictured. The engraving appears to have been removed from a bound volume, possibly volume 3 of The War with the South: a History of the Late Rebellion by Robert Tomes, Benjamin G. Smith, New York, Virtue & Yorston, 3 volumes, 1862-1867.

In the portrait, Sprague poses in his uniform. He hold his proper left arm at his stomach and his proper right hand at his lap.

Salmon P. Chase
This circular letter was issued by Salmon P. Chase just three weeks after Fort Sumpter was fired upon and the Southern coastal blockades were in effect. Abraham first instituted the blockade on 19 April 1861 by proclamation. The broadside is folded with a blank inside and is moderately browned.

It is estimated that more than $200,000,000 worth of damage was done; more tragically, some 90,000 people were displaced because of the fire and approximately 300 people perished in the flames.
