
Artifacts
The Frank and Virginia Williams Collection of Lincolniana consists of approximately 12,000 artifacts, statuary, prints, paintings, broadsides, ephemera, photographs, philately, collectibles/miniatures, and numismatics. Materials are housed in 20 map case drawers, 30 cartons, and a variety of loose statuary, prints, and paintings. The collection also includes nearly 100 original manuscripts and the Claude Simmons collection which consists of approximately 12 bankers boxes of Lincoln related materials and scrapbooks. There are also approximately 15,000 books, journals, and pamphlets separated into two collections: the Lincoln Book Collection and the Civil War/Collateral Book Collection.

The medal's obverse design depicts a bust portrait of John Quincy Adams, the sixth United States President and eighth United States Secretary of State. On the reverse, Adams is pictured standing with a crumpled piece of paper in his proper right hand. Both of his arms are raised, and three men either sit or stand to the side and watch Adams deliver a speech.

The medal's obverse depicts the quarter-right profile of Lillian D. Wald, an American nurse, humanitarian, and author, from the shoulders up. On the reverse, the medal shows Wald [?] looking on at five children sitting on a home's front steps. A man and a woman stand at the base of the stairs.

The carte de visite features a portrait of Abraham Lincoln and Tad Lincoln taken by Alexander Garner on 10 April 1865 in what would be Lincoln's final photo session before his assassination. The sylvan background seen in this manifestation was added later by Gardner for artistic effect. [Ref: O-114.] The photograph features Abraham Lincoln seated at a table with his proper left elbow resting on the tabletop and a book in his proper left hand. Tad leans on the opposite side of the table with his proper forearm resting on the tabletop.

The albumen print depicts the hanging of the Abraham Lincoln assassination conspirators, Mary Surratt, Lewis Paine, David Herold, and George Atzerodt. In the image, the prisoners can be seen standing on the scaffolding in the yard of the Old Arsenal Prison. The execution took place on 7 July 1865. The image is affixed to a paper mount.
