Description
The medal's obverse design depicts the right-side profile of James Fenimore Cooper, a nineteenth-century historical writer most famous for penning The Last of the Mohicans. On the reverse of the medal, a quill is pictured at the center. To its proper right, a bald eagle holds an anchor in its talons. Behind it, a mountain and ship are pictured. To the quill's proper left, a Native American man and natural rock landscape and vegetation are pictured.
