Description
The medal's obverse design depicts the left-side profile of Peter Cooper, an American industrialist, inventor, and philanthropist. He is best-known for creating the first steam locomotive, the Tom Thumb, and establishing the The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. On the reverse, an outdoor scene is pictured. Four figures walk through a desert terrain at night. Natural rock formations, trees, and the night sky are pictured in the background. The silhouette of Pegasus is pictured on the moon.
