Description
The medal's obverse design depicts a portrait image of Oliver Wendell Holmes, a prominent nineteenth-century writer of poetry and prose. On the reverse, the outline of a kneeling figure is featured. Four symbols are pictured just above the figure's head, which include the symbols for Venus and Mars, an upright infinity sign, and a dagger-like image. An armless male statue stands at the bottom left and a ship is pictured on the bottom right.
