Business Agreement between Peleg Clarke Jr. and John M. Herndon, April 26, 1860

This agreement between Peleg Clarke Jr. and John M. Herndon, dated April 26, 1860, declares that the men are going into the house construction and repair business together with Clarkee supplying and managing the machine shop factory for eight hundred dollars annually and Herndon to furnish five thousand dollars as needed for the co-partnership to be repaid with interest. The agreement goes on to outline all other aspects and considerations for the business partnership and is signed by both Herndon and Clarkee.

Receipts of Major Braxton & Wallace for Bills left for 1866 Collection, Peleg Clarke Jr. Legal Claims, 1866

This document lists the claims made by Peleg Clarkee for bills owed him with the percent and no more on the account collected the costs of suits to be first taken out of the receipts. The list of charges begin in 1860 and go through 1862 for a grand total of three thousand, three hundred and seventy-six dollars and sixty-eight cents as presented by Major Braxton and Wallace.

This letter, dated August 27, 1859, is presumed to be written from John M. Patton Jr.to an unidentified man named Jack. The letter discusses several legal matters and offers his services should Jack need them.

This letter of administration was issued by the Groton District probate court for the estate of Oliver G. Merrit to Peleg Clarkee, assigning Clarkee the administer of the estate. The letter was issued by Amos Clifton, the Probate Court judge on December 6, 1858.
Certificate for Shares of the Melville Gold Mining Company, December 1, 1857

This certificate, numbered 289, certifies that Peleg Clarkee, Jr. is entitled to twenty-five shares of the Capital Stock of the Melville Gold Mining Company. The certificate is signed by William C. Ford, the company secretary and John Callallon, the president of the company. The corticate includes imagery of men working in mines and declares that the Melville Gold Mining Company was "organized under an act of the Legislature of New York, authorizing the Formation of Corporations, passed February 17, 1848."

This letter, dated May 11, 1853, is written from Joseph Willcox to his mother, Marin Willcox describing his conflicting desires to come home but to stay until he can make his time in Grass Valley, California worth both for himself and for her. Willcox goes on to describe the weather there and speculate on what he might be doing in the coming year.

This handwritten note, dated March 14, 1862 and signed by Peleg Clarkee, serves as a check requesting the Branch Bank of Virginia at Fredericksburg pay Henry Saunders one hundred and ninety dollars.
