Description

This black and white illustration depicts a group of ten men gathered around a table. Abraham Lincoln is depicted at the head of the table and seven of the other men are military officers. The table has a tablecloth draped over it with a tray of inkwells and a large map is displayed across one end of the table with one of the officers pointing to a portion of it. The painter's name and the engraver's names are both listed on each bottom corners of the illustration. "First Council of War 1861" is captioned below. The illustration is within volume three of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
