Description

This is a black and white illustration of John Wool, an officer in the United States Army during three consecutive U.S. wars: the War of 1812, the Mexican–American War and the American Civil War. Wool is depicted as standing beside a table wearing a military uniform with one hand resting on the table and one holding some papers. Wool's signature is depicted beneath the illustration. "From the original painting by Chappel, in the possession of the Publishers" and "Johnson Fry and Co. Publishers, New York." are captioned near the bottom of the page. This illustration is from volume four of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
