Description
This is a black and white illustration of General Nathaniel Lyon, the first Union general to be killed in the American Civil War. Lyon is depicted as wearing a military uniform with epaulettes on either shoulder. "Engraved by John A. O'Neill" is along the bottom edge of the illustration. Lyon's signature is depicted below with "Brigadier Gen. U. S. A." beneath it. This illustration is from volume four of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
