Description

This black and white illustration is of Albert Sidney Johnston, considered by Confederate States President Jefferson Davis to be the finest general officer in the Confederacy before the later emergence of Robert E. Lee. Johnston is depicted as wearing a double breasted military uniform for a high collar with stars and leaves on it. His signature is depicted beneath the illustration. This illustration is from volume five of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
