Description
This black and white illustration is a map of the positions at Fox and Turner's Gap during the Battle of South Mountain. The key or "explanation" identifies Union versus Confederate placement with different lines. Confederate forces D. H. Hill's Division and part of Longstreet's corps is identified on the left side of the map and Federal forces Hooker's and Reno's Corps Commanded by Major Gen. Burnside is identified on the right side of the map. Also identified are General Lee's Headquarters and Major General McClellan's headquarters. This illustration is in volume six of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
