Description

These black and white illustrations are of Philip Kearny and Fitz-John Porter. On the left, Kearny, a United States Army officer, notable for his leadership in the Mexican–American War and American Civil War, is depicted in profile, wearing a dark, double-breasted military uniform with shoulder boards. "General Philip Kearny" is captioned beneath the illustration. On the right, Porter, a career United States Army officer and a Union general during the American Civil War, is depicted in profile, wearing a dark, double-breasted military uniform with shoulder boards. "General Fitz-John Porter" is captioned beneath the illustration. The illustrations are in volume six of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
