Description
This black and white illustration is of Joseph Hooker, an American Civil War general for the Union, chiefly remembered for his decisive defeat by Confederate General Robert E. Lee at the Battle of Chancellorsville in 1863. Hooker is depicted wearing a dark, double-breasted military uniform with star studded shoulder boards. Hooker's signature is depicted as "J. Hooker" beneath the illustration and the engraver's name, H. B. Hall and Sons, is listed at the bottom of the page. This illustration is from volume seven, of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
