This black and white illustration is a map of the opposing corps at Spotsylvania, Virginia, the second major battle in Lt. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant and Maj. Gen. George G. Meade's 1864 Overland Campaign of the American Civil War. The map shows indications of troop placements throughout the area. The illustration is on page 373 from volume eight of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
