This black and white illustration is a map showing the relative positions of both the Union and Confederate armies during the morning and evening during a battle fought at Stevensburg and Hansbrough, Virginia on May 4, 1864. The map includes the explanation key to the respective troops places. "Relative Positions of Forces, Morning and Evening, May 4, 1864" is captioned directly beneath the map and text from the chapter fourteen is below. The illustration is on page 356 from volume eight of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
