Description
This black and white illustration is of George Foster Shepley, an officer in the Union Army during the American Civil War, military governor of Louisiana and a United States circuit judge of the United States Circuit Courts for the First Circuit. Shepley is depicted wearing a dark, double-breasted military uniform with star-studded shoulder boards. The engravers name, A. H. Ritchie, is named along the bottom edge of the illustration and Shepley's name is captioned below. The illustration is from volume nine of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
