This black and white illustration is of General Wade Hampton, an American military officer who served the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War and later a politician from South Carolina. Hampton is depicted as wearing a grey, double-breasted military uniform with shoulder boards. Hampton's name is captioned beneath the illustration. The illustration is from volume nine of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
