This black and white illustration depicts the scene of the General Lee's surrender during the American Civil War. The scene depicts General Lee to the right of a table, dressed in his military uniform while signing a document. A man is depicted standing behind him and General Grant and another officer are depicted standing on the left side of the table. The scene is captioned "Surrender of General Lee" beneath the illustration. The illustration is from volume nine of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
