This black and white illustration is of Frederick P. Stanton, an American lawyer and politician who served in the United States House of Representatives for Tennessee's 10th congressional district and as Secretary (and at times acting governor) of the Kansas Territory. Stanton is depicted as wearing a dark suit, vest, and tie with a white shirt. Stanton's name is captioned beneath the illustration. The illustration is within volume two of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
