Description

At the time of the obsequies at Washington, held on Wednesday, the 19th, business was suspended and services held on Wednesday, the 19th, business was suspended and services held in all the churches, indeed this day has been called "the mid-week Sabbath." Then, as a further gathering of the people on account of the death of Lincoln, President Johnson bad recommended that Thursday, Jun 1st, be observed as a day of general humiliation and mourning..."
