Description
A black and white photograph of the Old State House, located in Vandalia, Illinois. A label accompanies the image that states: Old State House / Vandalia, Ill. / Lincoln one of chief workers for removal of Capital to Springfield / Tradition claims that Lincoln jumped out of one of these windows to avoid a quorum. The reverse includes the following caption: State Capitol at Vandalia / Here, tradition says A. Lincoln jumped out of a window to defeat a quorum to vote to retain the capital at Vandalia for another 20 years. The image was enclosed in a black frame, but removed for preservation.
