Bill of sale for Hannah, aged twenty-six years, and her five children, sold by Daniel Miller of Virginia, to Halsey Townsend of Natchez, and attested by Jacob Soria, a professional slave auctioneer.
Transcription
Know all men by these presents that I Daniel Miller of the County of Orange and State of Virginia, for and in consideration of the sum of one thousand and twenty five dollars to me in Hand paid by Halsey Townsend of the city of Natchez and state of Mississippi before the sealing & delivery of these presents the Receipt when of is hereby acknowledged, have bargained sold and delivered unto the said Townsend a negro woman named Hannah aged 26 years and her five children [[?]] Harriet aged 5 years, Tandy aged 1 years, Jackson aged 5 years, Kitty aged 3 years and Washington aged about 15 months, which said negroes warrant to be sound in Body & mind & to be slaves for life. In testimony when of I have here unto sit my Hand seal this 15th day of February AD 1832 this 15th day of February AD 1832. Tested J. Soria Daniel Miller (seal)
