Description
This handwritten postcard note, postmarked Lexington, Virigina, November 5, 1943, is written from W. N. Bogan Jr. in Birmingham, Alabama where he is visiting, to his mother, Catherine F. Bogan in West Point, Mississippi. The note updates her on what he's been doing in Birmingham. The postcard features an image of the Vulcan on Red Mountain, Birmingham, Alabama, described on the back as "Vulcan, the Iron Man, weighing 120,000 pounds, is the largest cast-iron statue in the world. With the exception of the Statue of Liberty, it is the tallest statue in America. The postcard is postmarked Birmingham, Alabama, November 5, 1943 and "Free" is handwritten in the space typically reserved for the postage stamp.
