The letter goes on to describe the likelihood that he will not be back home in time for his sister's wedding. The letter is signed "Dearest love, Son." Some notes are written in pencil along the bottom of the last page and the sideways across the top of the first page. Two notecards addressed to Juliette from N. Kelly that contain continuations of the penciled notes are included with the letter. The two cards are postmarked Jackson, Mississippi, February 12, 1946 and include purple three cent stamps. The air mail envelope is postmarked U. S. Army Postal Service, A. P. O., January 19, 1946 and includes a red six cent air mail postage stamp. The penciled notes continue longways across the front and back of the envelope.

The books is backwards and upside down and reads "How to be Smart". The title across the top of the postcard reads "This is CBS...The Columbia Broadcasting System" and "Tom Howard" is behind the cartoon man. The postcard description text on the back reads "Phillip Morris presents IT PAYS TO BE IGNORANT...a hilarious quiz where Tom Howard and his daffy team of experts prove that it pays to listen! The handwritten letter dated October 18, 1945 describes the job he's been doing, his recreational activities, and discusses news from home. The letter dated October 29, 1945 discusses his lack of correspondence, the boxes he's received, and an upcoming move. The letter dated November 9, 1945 describes the cold weather, his recreational activities, and sporting events. Five black and white photographs of his travels are included with the letters. The postmark on the air mail envelope is too faded to read. A red six cent air mail postage stamp is in the upper right. "Nuremberg GR Oct 18-29-Nov 9-45" is written in red along the bottom of the envelope. Dates are written in pencil on the back of the envelope.
