James Franklin “Frank” Buchanan Papers

 

The collection consists of the papers of James Franklin "Frank" Buchanan from 1907-1991. The papers are divided into four sections: family papers, photographs, professional papers, and school papers. Materials heavily represented include correspondence, datebooks, genealogy notes, photographs school notes, work notes, and some World War II items (letters, photographs, and personal account).

    In this portion of James Franklin Buchanan's autobiography, he begins with a brief, two page description of his early life prior to enlisting with the Army . On page three he states that "This portion of my story deals with the army" and proceeds to document his time in the army from enlistment, through training, and on to his service overseas during World War II. The last four pages of the fifty-two page document shares photographs of people and places during Buchanan's time in the Army.

    In this bound copy of James Franklin Buchanan's autobiography, he begins with a brief, two page description of his early life prior to enlisting with the Army . On page three he states that "This portion of my story deals with the army" and proceeds to document his time in the army from enlistment, through training, and on to his service overseas during World War II. Some photographs of people and places during Buchanan's time in the Army are included. Additionally, an account of his trip abroad d for the Farm Bureau Federation's Bavarian Adventure tour of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland in October 1973 is included in the last seven pages. A handwritten note on page forty-eight dedicates the autobiography "To my daughter from Frank Buchanan, not for publication--a matter of record--and for your enjoyment-Feb. 10, 1974"
