Description

A sepia toned photograph pictures the monement of Stonewall Jackson located at the Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans, Louisiana. The monument, dedicated in 1881, features an 8-foot statue of Jackson on top of a 38-foot granit column that sits on a tumulus mound. Sculpted by Achille Perelli, the statue is dedicated to the Louisianans who served under Jackson in the ARmy of Northern Virginia with more than 100 veterans burined in the mound beneath it. In this photograph, a person is pictured standing at the base of the mound with the statue behind him and long path in front that leads the monument. A partial description of the photograph is written in pencil beneath the image though much of it is not readable due to damage to the page the photograph is mounted on. This photograph was originally included on a scrapbook page.
