Description

This color postcard features a large concrete fountain pool with a sidewalk leading up to a large white three story building. The building features arched or rounded windows on the top floor and a flag flying from the center of the roof. Trees and shrubs line the fountain and the building. Other buildings can be seen behind the central building. The title along the bottom of the card reads "General Office of the Gulf and Ship Island RR and Lawn of the Great Southern Hotel, Gulfport, Miss." The back of the postcard identifies the item as a postcard and provides publisher information as well as indication for correspondence and address placement. A green one cent postage stamp is placed in the upper right corner and the card is postmarked New Orleans, Louisiana, June 19, 1911. The card is inscribed and is addressed to Miss Janie Hanks in Missouri Valley, Iowa.

Gulf Port, Miss. 6/11/16 Dear Janie I am at Ella today. Came over this morning and will go back to night this is a fine place wright on the Gulf. I can look out the front door and see it I sure wish you was here today to see the big sips that are here I the harbor I drop you some more cards from N. Orleans. C. E. D.
