Description

This postcard features a color image of the Ship Island Lighthouse on Ship Island off the coast of Mississippi in the Mississippi sound. The lighthouse is an angular wooden tower with a railing at the top surrounding the light fixture. A wooden walkway leads up to the lighthouse and a young boy is standing on it. The paragraph on the upper left on the back of the card reads "Ship Island Lighthouse, located 12 miles off the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Erected in 1885, this picturesque old lighthouse serves as a landmark for boating enthusiasts as well as for the shrimpers. Its nighttime functions have been taken over by modern electronic devices."
