Description
This black and white professional photograph stamped by “J. E. France, Water Valley.” is of an unidentified family at Water Valley, Mississippi. James E. France (1864-1929), a Kansas native, is listed as a photographer in Water Valley on Clay Street with wife Addie and daughter Esther in the 1900 U. S. Census. By 1910, France had moved his studio to Corinth. By 1920, France had moved his studio to Greenville, Miss. by 1920. This appears to be a prominent Water Valley family, with 16 people and multiple generations pictured. The attire asserts the prominence of the family, with their house in the background. There are two images, one 11 x 14 and one 8 x 10, and both images appear to be the same image, one with darker tint than the other. Ca. 1885-1905. This copy of the image is mounted on black board with ripping along the edges.
