Description

This postcard is a color illustration of a section of Leaf River in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Trees and bushes line either side of the river and the New Orleans and Northeastern Railroad tracks cross the river. The New Orleans and Northeastern Railroad, which operated from 1882-1916 from Meridian to New Orleans was formulated by William H. Hardy and later became the Southern Railway which is now the Norfolk Southern Railway. The title of the postcard is printed along the bottom edge of the card and the photographer's name is in the lower left corner of the image. "May 22/08 is written in the upper left corner. The back of the card is addressed to Mr. C. Crensen in Richmond, Virginia and a green, one cent Benjamin Franklin postage stamp is placed in the upper right corner.
