Description

This postcard features a black and white image of Longwood, also known as Nutt's Folly, a historic antebellum octagonal mansion in Natchez, Mississippi. The mansion includes byzantine onion-shaped dome, dentils along the porch, arched windows, and Italianate Brackets, and wrap-around porches with arched columns and white railing. Spanish moss draped trees and other trees partially obscure the view of the mansion. The title of the card is printed along the bottom edge of the image and the photographer is named in the lower left corner. The back of the card is addressed to Mrs. Vidla Clara in Buffalo, New York and is postmarked Monroe, Louisiana, August 31, 1924. A red, two cent George Washington postage stamp is placed sideways in the upper right corner and an inscription is written on the left half of the card. [see transcription field]

8/31/24 it is as hot here today, as it was in your kitchen last Sunday. But your had it on me [?] because I had no cellar to get into. Hope you are nince [and] I'll write a letter as soon as I have something to say. Best Uncle Burt [sic]
