Description

This color postcard features a large naval ship on the open water. The ship bears two cage/lattice masts on either end of the ship with three silver funnels/stacks between them. A United States flag flies from the mast on the right and from the stern of the ship. Various weapons can be seen on the deck of the ship. The title in the upper left reads "U. S. Battleship Minnesota (Flagship)." The back of the postcard identifies the item as a postcard and provides publisher information as well as indication for address and postage stamp placement. The description in the upper left reads "217838--U. S. Battleship Minnesota. Displacement, about 17,600 tons; speed, 18 knots; 16,500 H.P. Length, 456 1/4 ft.; beam, 76 5-6 ft.; draught, 26 3/4 ft. Crew of 1013 men. Carries four 12 in. guns, eight 8 in. guns and 36 smaller guns, with four 21 in. torpedo tubes. Armor belt, amidships, 9ins; turrets, 12-8 ins.; barbettes, 10 ins. Completed, Dec., 1906. Cost $7, 448, 125.
