Navy and Battleship Postcards and Photographs
This collection includes 251 images from 1890s-1940s focused on the United States Navy, featuring original photographs and postcards of battleships, cruisers, destroyers, sailors, multiple images at sea, international ports of call (Manila, Nice, Monte Carlo, Sydney, Yokohama, Danzig, Brest, Istanbul or Constantinople, Panama, and Honolulu), and navy yards. One image features the sinking of the Maine, others various humorous cartoons from the 1930s and 1940s on naval topics, others of a faux boxing match and a boxing match with a kangaroo, others of a “Father Neptune” ceremony of sailors from January 1921, some of sailors eating watermelons and a World War I monument, and others are Japanese naval propaganda from World War II and German and French battleships from before World War I. The Battleships included are the U. S.
