Description
This color postcard features a naval battleship with cage/lattice masts on each end of the shop and three funnels/stacks in the center with smoke emitting from one of them. A United States flag is flying in font of the mast on the stern end. The ship is out on open water. The title in the upper left reads "U. S. Battleship "Connecticut" (Flagship)." The back of the postcard identifies the item as a postcard and provides publisher information as well as indication for correspondence and address placement. A green one cent postage stamp is placed in the upper right corner and the card is postmarked for Urham, Missouri. The description in the upper left reads "217715--U. S. Battleship Connecticut. Displacement, about 17,700 tons; speed, 19 knots; 20,500 H.P. Length, 456 1/2 ft.; beam, 76 5/3 ft.; draught, 26 3/4 ft. Flagship. Crew of 1008 men. Carries four 12 in. guns, eight 8 in guns and 36 smaller guns. Four 21 in. torpedo tubes. Armor belt, 11ins amdiships; 12--8 ins on turrets. Completed, June, 1906. Cost, $7,911,254. The card is inscribed and is addressed to Miss Leone Humphrey in Quinay, Illinois.
