Description
This color postcard features a large white naval ship on the open water. Four funnels/stacks are in the center of the ship between the to pole masts. A United States flag flies from the stern, a red flag flies from one of the masts, and a blue flag flies from the bow. A small white boat is floating in the water beside the ship. The title in the lower left reads "U. S. Navy, Cruiser "Pennsylvania." An inscription is handwritten in the white space beneath the title. The back of the postcard identifies the item as a postcard and provides publisher information, as well as, indication for address placement. A green one cent postage stamp is placed in the upper right corner and the card is postmarked DeSoto, Wisconsin, December 11, 1907. The description in the lower left reads "Cruiser "Pennsylvania." Built at Philadelphia. An armored cruiser, 502 feet long and 70 feet broad with a displacement of 13,680 tons of water. It has a speed of over 22 knots per hour. Horse-power, 23,000. Cost $3,890,000. Armed with four 8-inch and fourteen 6-inch guns and a powerful secondary battery. Completed, 41 officers and 791 men." The card is addressed to Mr. Henry Joseph in Maiden Rock, Wisconsin.
