Description
This color postcard features a large naval battleship on the water at night with the lights of the coastline behind it. The ship is shooting a beam of light from the cage mast. The moon is visible in the night sky. The title along the bottom of the card reads "U. S. Battleship Virginia, in Norfolk Harbor at Night." The back of the postcard identifies the item as a postcard and provides publisher information, as well as, indication for correspondence and address placement. A green one cent postage stamp is placed in the upper right and the card is postmarked Norfolk, Virginia, August 11, 1911. The card is inscribed and is addressed to Mrs. L. E. Faulkner in La Jolla, California.
Transcription
Just think dear mother, tonight a continent divides us. We arrived at Norfolk at night tonight and have been in the grand Atlantic swimming already. Isn't saltwater grand? Lake will never have charms again. Can swim and float grand. Will write soon. Love, Eunice. P. S. Will stay three days. [sic]
