Description

This sepia toned picture postcard features a large naval cruiser with a United States flag flying on the stern. The description in the upper left corner reads "South Carolina Speed 18.86 knots, Displacement 16,000 tons, Length 450 feet, Horsepower 18,000, Armament: 8.12 in, Under 4 inch-26, 2-21 inch Torpedo Tubes, Complement: 49 Officers, 756 Men Cost $3,540,000." The back of the postcard identifies the item as a postcard and provides publisher information as well as indication for correspondence, address, and postage stamp placement. The card is inscribed and addressed in a sticker to Mrs. Olive Christiansen in Plainview, Nebraska. The card is not postmarked and does not include a postage stamp. "Battleship Series No. 1" is in the lower left corner.
