Description
Crayon portrait of William Alexander Love in Mississippi National Guard uniform. Love joined the Prairie Guards of the state militia when it was formed in the 1870s and retired with the rank of brigadier-general in the Mississippi National Guard in 1906. Crayon portraits, where a photograph is enhanced with charcoal and pastel, were popular in the latter part of the nineteenth century.
