Abstract
Creatine and caffeine are ergogenic aids known to enhance performance and cognitive function. However, limited research has examined their combined effects on physical and cognitive outcomes. The purpose of this study was to examine creatine and caffeine ingestion effects on muscular endurance, repeated sprint performance, and cognitive function. Ten resistance-trained males completed a randomized, partially double-blind design examining four conditions: control, caffeine (300mg), creatine, and creatine plus caffeine. Outcomes included repetitions to failure for bench press and back squat, repeated bike sprints, and Stroop Color and Word Test. No significant differences were observed between conditions for maximal strength,repetitions to failure or cognitive outcomes (p > 0.05). Creatine supplementation increased peak power during repeated sprints compared to control (p = 0.017) and caffeine (p = 0.035). Concurrent ingestion reduced bench press percent drop-off between sets (p ≤ 0.045). Overall, concurrent creatine and caffeine ingestion did not produce additive ergogenic effects.
