Artifacts

The Frank and Virginia Williams Collection of Lincolniana consists of approximately 12,000 artifacts, statuary, prints, paintings, broadsides, ephemera, photographs, philately, collectibles/miniatures, and numismatics. Materials are housed in 20 map case drawers, 30 cartons, and a variety of loose statuary, prints, and paintings. The collection also includes nearly 100 original manuscripts and the Claude Simmons collection which consists of approximately 12 bankers boxes of Lincoln related materials and scrapbooks. There are also approximately 15,000 books, journals, and pamphlets separated into two collections: the Lincoln Book Collection and the Civil War/Collateral Book Collection.

In the background, natural vegetation as well as a Confederate fort are pictured. At the top of the fort's wall, a Confederate soldier is pictured standing next to a Confederate flag. At the image's top, three coins are shown that depict the following three men: Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson, Robert E. Lee, and Joseph E. Johnston. To the coin's left, the first national flag of the Confederate States of America with 13 stars is shown. To the right, the Lone Star Flag of Texas is pictured. The image appears to have been removed from an unidentified bound volume.

On the reverse, two nude figures are pictured. The first lies on his side with a sword held in his proper right hand. The second figure is situated in a crouching position just above the first. The sword's blade is placed between the second figure's head and proper left arm.

To the whale's proper right, a man is shown walking on the bow of a ship and an octopus dives at its side. To its proper left, two divers and a school of fish swim underwater. A second ship is shown in the background.
