Description
This is a black and white illustration of Silas Horton Stringham, an officer of the United States Navy who commanded the Atlantic Blockading Squadron at the beginning of the American Civil War. Stringham is depicted as wearing a double breasted military uniform with a belt, shoulder boards, and black tie. The artist and engraver are listed along the bottom edge of the illustration. Stringham's signature is depicted as "S. H. Stringham" with the caption "Rear-Adm. S. H. Stringham, U. S. N" below the illustration. This illustration is from volume five of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
