Description
This handwritten letter, dated April 13, 1945, is written from W. N. (William Neill) Bogan, Jr. where he is stationed in Germany to his parents, W. N., Sr. and Catherine F. Bogan, in West Point, Mississippi. The letter describes what he is doing while in Germany and his fear that the placement will become permanent. The letter goes on to discuss Eisenhower's non-fraternization rule and how he doesn't "want anything to do with these people" and why he feels that way. The letter concludes by describing the notification they got of Franklin Roosevelt's death and his hopes that Truman "turns out to be a bigger man than I think he is." The letter is signed "Devotedly, Buddy." A purple ink postmark for West Point, Mississippi, may 12, 1945 is beneath the text on the last page of the letter. The air mail envelope is postmarked twice. The first postmark is U. S. Army Postal Services, A. P. O., April 14, 1945 and the second postmark is West Point, Mississippi, May 12, 1945. A red six cent air mail postage stamp is in the upper right and an Army examiner ink stamp is in the lower left with a signature below it.
