  Statue of Henry Clay, New Orleans, Louisiana

  This black and white photograph shows the original placement of the Henry Clay statue on Canal Street at the intersection of St. Charles Avenue and Royal Street in New Orleans, Louisiana. A streetcar, buildings, and utility poles are seen behind the bronze statue. The statue stands on top of a tall granite base surrouned by a small fence on the round platform.   Confederate General Joseph E. Johnston

  Anderson Photography, Richmond, VA

  This is a black and white photograph of Joseph E. Johnston, an American career army officer, an executive in the railroad and insurance businesses, and a Democrat in the United States House of Representatives, serving a single term. He was appointed as commissioner of railroads under Grover Cleveland. In the photograph, Johnston is seated, facing the left and wearing a dark suit and white shirt. The photograph is mounted on a black board and Johnston's signature is in the white border directly beneath the photograph. A typed descripton of the photograph and a brief biography of Johnston is on the back of the board.
