    This postcard features the First Methodist Church on Main Street in Water Valley, Mississippi. The church is three stories with two towers that bear steep spheres. The windows and doorways are arched and the center window contains stained glass designs. the title of the card is printed beneath the image and an inscription is written upside down below the title. "Mitt 1908" is written above the image. The back of the card is addressed to Miss Ivy Williamson in Windsor, Missouri.     This color postcard features a street view of two homes with a park and trees between them. The home on the left is white, two stories with a brown roof. The Home on the right is a three story brown brick with a second story balcony. The park between the homes is noted in handwritten inscription as Blanton Park and the home on the right is noted in a handwritten inscription as Elks Home. The title along the top identifies the area as "Greenville, Miss., Hinds Street, looking North." The back of the postcard identifies the item as a postcard and provides photographer information as well as indication for communication and address placement. A green one cent postage stamp is placed in the upper right corner and the card is postmarked Greenville, Mississippi , January 2, 1908. The card is inscribed and is addressed to Miss Sallie Sanders in Carrollton Kentucky.

    I. C. R. P. (Illinois Central Railroad) Yards, Leading to Shops, Water Valley, Mississippi

    This postcard is a color illustration of the yards and shops at the Illinois Central Railroad company in Water Valley, Mississippi. Train cars are seen on the tracks and several buildings, equipment, and train parts are in the yard. After the Civil War, the Mississippi Central was rebuilt under the guidance of Absalom M. West and eventually the Illinois Central Railroad acquired the line by 1872. Illinois Central established their regional headquarters in Water Valley, and based a large maintenance facility there. Famed engineer Casey Jones regularly operated passenger trains along the line, and it was said locals could set their watches by him due to his strict adherence to published schedules. In 1927, Illinois Central started to shift traffic to their Grenada-Memphis route and closed the maintenance facility in Water Valley. In 1941, passenger service ended along the route and five years later the regional headquarters was relocated from Water Valley to Jackson, TN. the title of the card is printed on the upper edge of the image. The back of the card is addressed to Mrs. J. A. Van Horn in Memphis, Tennessee. The card is postmarked Water Valley, Miss., October 3, 1908 and green, one cent Benjamin Franklin postage stamp is placed in the upper right corner.     This black and white picture postcard features a two story building with arched windows, an arched entrance, a chimney in the center and a turret with a cupola on the right end. A sidewalk leads up to the building and trees are in front of it. The title along the top of the card identifies the building as "Kosciusko Public School, Kosciusko, Miss." A white fence runs between the houses and several trees are in the yards in front of the houses. The title of the card is printed below the image. The back of the card is addressed to Miss Mabel McIntosh in Monet, Missouri. The card is postmarked Winona, Mississippi, October 5, 1908 and a green, one cent Benjamin Franklin postage stamp is placed upside down in the upper right corner.     This black and white photograph is a rare Norman photograph (with their imprint) of the Jefferson College Baseball Team, ca. 1908. The uniforms have “Jefferson” emblazoned across them with matching caps and the young men hold their gloves, balls, and bats. The catcher’s face mask and catcher’s glove are also visible. The names of the 12 players, their positions, and their manager are listed. Top row: Estopinal, C. F. (center field); Gemenez (substitute); Gillespie, R. F. (right field); Gray, L. F. (left field and substitute). Middle Row: Shepherd, third base; Prejean, short stop; Thompson, second base; Rivers, first base and captain; Clark, manager. Bottom Row: Kidd, pitcher; Warren, catcher; Torrey, pitcher. Jefferson College, in Washington, Mississippi, was founded as an all-male college but operated primarily as a college preparatory school and later military boarding school during most of its history. Named in honor of Thomas Jefferson, the college was chartered in 1802, but did not begin operation until 1811. Due to declining enrollment and financial difficulties, the facility closed in 1964. The photograph is mounted on a discolored cardboard matt. The back of the board identifies the photographs subject, year, and photographer.

Trees and streets surround the building and another building is seen behind it. The title "Elks' Home, Greenville, Miss." is in the lower right. An inscription is handwritten across the top of the image. The back of the postcard identifies the item as a postcard. A green one cent postage stamp is placed in the upper right corner and the card is postmarked Omega, Mississippi, June 9, 1907. The card is addressed to Miss Lena Paxton in Lake Providence, Louisiana.

    Envelope, Hotel Cowan, Greenville, Mississippi

    This envelope bears black and white illustrations of two hotel buildings. The Natchez in Natchez, Mississippi is depicted on the top left of the envelope as a five story hotel with a dome on the corner of the roof that faces the street. Hotel Cowan in Greenville, Mississippi is depicted in the lower left of the envelope as a split, split story building with a two story section between two four story section. The center illustration is of a bundle of cotton with "Hotel Cowan" printed in red ink over it. The Greenville postmarked, dated may 1, 1907 is stamped over the illustration and a red, two cent George Washington postage stamp is placed in the upper right corner of the envelope. The envelope is addressed to miss Emma Clap in E. Santa Cruz, California. A postmark for Santa Cruz, California, May 5, 1907 is on the back of the envelope.

    This black and white postcard features a two story building with four columns across the front entrance and ornate moldings on the front gable. "First National Bank" is lettered on the facadejust beneath the front gable and is also in the center bottom edge of the image. "Greenville, Miss." is in the white space on the right edge of the card and "30. W. OY" is hand written beneath. A transcription is written in German along the white edge of the card. The back of the postcard identifies the item as a postcard and provides indication for correspondence and address placement. A red two cent postage stamp is placed in the upper right corner and the card is postmarked New Orleans, Louisiana, November 2, 1907. The card is inscribed in German and is addressed to Virty Wagner in Berlin, Germany.

    This postcard features a black and white image of the main building on the Grenada College Campus in Grenada, Mississippi. The building is three stories with a curved front elevation and is lined with two story white columns and a white railing along the front of the third story. The ground level skirting has curved or arched openings and there are three sets of steps leading to the front porch. The title of the card is printed beneath the bottom edge of the image. The back of the card is addressed to Miss Margarete Parks in Durant, Mississippi. The postmark is partially missing though the date, September 24, 1907 and Miss. are still visible.The postage stamp is partially missing as well.

The identity of the courthouse and location was provided by the donor, Dr. Lucius Marion Lampton.

I am safe at home and just burning up and it is awful here and I just so tired all the time and work has begun on my house and when its finished you must come to see us and hope you are well and Best Wishes, Lucile." This appears to be a prominent Water Valley family, with 16 people and multiple generations pictured. The attire asserts the prominence of the family, with their house in the background. There are two images, one 11 x 14 and one 8 x 10, and both images appear to be the same image, one with darker tint than the other. Ca. 1885-1905.     This black and white professional photograph stamped by “J. E. France, Water Valley.” is of an unidentified family at Water Valley, Mississippi. James E. France (1864-1929), a Kansas native, is listed as a photographer in Water Valley on Clay Street with wife Addie and daughter Esther in the 1900 U. S. Census. By 1910, France had moved his studio to Corinth. By 1920, France had moved his studio to Greenville, Miss. by 1920. This appears to be a prominent Water Valley family, with 16 people and multiple generations pictured. The attire asserts the prominence of the family, with their house in the background. There are two images, one 11 x 14 and one 8 x 10, and both images appear to be the same image, one with darker tint than the other. Ca. 1885-1905. This copy of the image is mounted on black board with jagged corners.

The image on the left shows a saloon sign that it cut off from the image on the right. A man driving a horse drawn wagon is pictured driving down the dirt street between the saloon an other buildings while a group of men are standing on the porch outside the saloon. "Greenville, Miss. on the Mississippi River is printed on the bottom of the image on the right. "American Scenery" is printed on either end of the yellow stereoview card. The title of the card is handwritten along the top of the back of the card and "The Treadwell Collection" is stamped at the bottom.
