Description

This postcard features a view of several rows of compressed cotton bales on a platform in front of a cotton compress building. A water tower is seen behind the building. People are seen standing on top of and in front of the cotton bales. A dirt road leads to a ramp for the platform. The title of the card is printed in the upper left of the image and "Jan. 18 1916 Thermometer at 16 degrees Benton" is written below the title. The back of the card is addressed to Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Higginbotham in Albany, Clinton County, Kentucky. The card is postmarked Grenada, Miss., January 29, 1916 and a green, one cent George Washington postage stamp is placed in the upper right corner. An inscription is written sideways on the left half of the card. [see transcription field]

1/20/16 I am all ok and Tode is fine. The weather down hear is some cold sure. I am satisfied you are having some cold weather for sure up ther. When are you all coming down. We would like so much to see you all. I am glad that I am not [?] up there in that counry now. Come down soon as you can all of you. Tell Mary Harlow and Kids howdy and Bercio your neph--Benton [sic]
