Artifacts

The Frank and Virginia Williams Collection of Lincolniana consists of approximately 12,000 artifacts, statuary, prints, paintings, broadsides, ephemera, photographs, philately, collectibles/miniatures, and numismatics. Materials are housed in 20 map case drawers, 30 cartons, and a variety of loose statuary, prints, and paintings. The collection also includes nearly 100 original manuscripts and the Claude Simmons collection which consists of approximately 12 bankers boxes of Lincoln related materials and scrapbooks. There are also approximately 15,000 books, journals, and pamphlets separated into two collections: the Lincoln Book Collection and the Civil War/Collateral Book Collection.

    The object is a black and white photograph of the original staircase at Abraham Lincoln's home in Springfield, Illinois. The dark walnut stairway curves at the top of the stairs to the second floor. The hallway next to stairs has bare hardwood floors leads to the dinning room, while the stairs are carpeted. The walls are wallpapered. The door to the right leads to the front parlor. The only source of light is a hanging lamp. Abraham Lincoln and his family lived in this house from 1844 to 1861 before Lincoln was elected President. The house is located at the corner of Eighth and Jackson Streets in Springfield, a part of the Lincoln Home National Historic Site.

McClellan wears a Union uniform while holding a sword. A tripod of rifles stand behind him, which surround a drum. Lincoln is dressed in his typical attire, a long overcoat and top hat. He stands with his proper right hand at his hip. The last figure, Nicolay, is dressed in a similar fashion. He carries a book in his proper right hand and his hat in his proper left. The statuette is affixed to a wood base that features a brass title plate at its front.
