The collection consists of the papers of James Franklin "Frank" Buchanan from 1907-1991. The papers are divided into four sections: family papers, photographs, professional papers, and school papers. Materials heavily represented include correspondence, datebooks, genealogy notes, photographs school notes, work notes, and some World War II items (letters, photographs, and personal account).

This set of three letters begins with a letter from Minnie Bready, dated May 25, 1985, to James Franklin Buchanan requesting the contact information he has for Jewell Crowell in hopes of furthering the genealogy research she's doing. The next letter, dated May 31, 1985, is written to Mrs. David Bready by Buchanan responding to her request. The third letter, dated May 31, 1985, is written to Buchanan's niece and nephew, Ruth and Charles providing Bready's contact information to add her to the Buchanan meeting in the Fall. An envelope addressed to Frank Buchanan from Mrs. David Bready, postmarked Greenwood, Mississippi is included. "Answer" is written across the front of the envelope and "Jewell Crowell Nashville" is written across the back.

In the second letter he says he has enclosed a list of graves that he'd cataloged in Panola County and informs her of minor life events. An envelope with a Kosciusko, Mississippi postmark and a pink Lincoln postage stamp is included.

D. envelope states what a dog tag is and what it is used for and declares the tags within belonged to "Frank" Buchanan in his tour in France during World War II and declares that they go to his daughter, Harriet Ann Buchanan. The dog tags are not longer inside the envelope.
