This biography of Lincoln was the first in a projected series of inspirational exemplary biographies published for the working class. As indicated on the front wrapper and half-title, the series ' ""Obreros Ilustres"" or ""Illustrious Workers"" was a joint project of Corchado and Jose Feliu, noted Catalan journalist and author. The series was never realized, and subsequent biographies never appeared. It is stiking evidence of Lincoln's international stature as an inspirational figure, that Corchado and Feliu would choose him to initiate their series.

This pamphlet is a german biography by an intimate Lincoln associate, dedicated to Robert Todd Lincoln, Dr. Canisius (1827-1885), a German-American immigrant living in Springfield, was engaged by Lincoln to establish a pro-Republican German-language newspaper for the 1860 campaign, using a printing press Lincoln had purchased for the purpose. Canisius complied, the result being the Illinois Staats-Anzeiger, no copies of which are known to have survived. Canisius was instrumental in getting Lincoln's endorsement of voting rights for immigrants, and Lincoln's letter to him on the subject was widely reprinted in the press, and was influential in securing German-American support for the Republican ticket. Lincoln rewarded him with an appointment as consul to Samoa. In his preface, Canisius describes his close friendship with Lincoln, and claims his biography offers otherwise unknown details of Lincoln's life.

Death of President Lincoln : Public Meeting in Boone County, Missouri.
From the Columbia Missouri statesman, April 28, 1865. Includes an address by William F. Switzler, resolutions presented by James S. Rollins, and a letter from Missouri Governor Thomas C. Fletcher. Text within black border. A public expresson of grief and mourning and support for the Union, from the heart of Missouri's ""Little Dixie,"" a stronghold of slavery and Southern sympahies, and at the time of Lincoln's assassination a near-lawless region dominated by bushwhackers, vigilantes and state militia men. The proceedings, held in the courthouse in Columbia, included remarks by Col. William F. Switzler (1819-1906), journalist, Missouri historian and editor of the Columbia Missouri Statesman, and a series of resolutions composed by Prof. John Lathrop, president of the meeting, all of which express deep respect for the murdered President and sorrow for the nation's loss, and a firm commitment to the Union. According to Switzler's own ""History of Boone County"" (1882, p. 474) "" the proceedings of this meeting were published in a large costly volume, issued by order of Congress - a distinction not given to any other county meeting in the Union.""
