Lease Agreement, 160 Acres Owned by R. J. Herald, August 23, 1890
This handwritten lease agreement states that an unnamed person has leased 160 acres of land in Attala County, Mississippi from R. J. Herald for a period of three years and agrees to pay Herald five bales of good lint cotton by November fifteenth of each year of the lease. An option to extend the lease five more years is included in the agreement at the same price. The lease is not signed but does include a diagram of the land in question.

Letter, Wirt Adams to R. B. Webb, August 30, 1890
In this handwritten letter, Wirt Adams writes to R. B. Webb regarding his role as tax collector for Attala County, Mississippi and provides the statements of accounts for Attala County for the years 1885 and 1886. The accounts include balances due the county and balances due the state for those years. Wirt offers Webb the opportunity to study the accounts and provide any corrections he might find. The letter is written on State of Mississippi Officer of Auditor Public Accounts letterhead.

Newspaper Clipping, A Preacher and His Wife Pounded, undated
This article is a letter written by T. A. Moore, the new pastor, and his wife to thank the members of the community and church for the "pounding" they received after having just moved into their home. Pounding is a ritual in Christianity in which a new priest or minister is given gifts by members of the congregation of that church at which he is assigned to preach. In his letter, Reverend Moore describes how the events unfolded after his wife placed a small order with the local grocer to get them by until they could get to town.

Bill for Partition, J. P. Marshall, Guardian et all versus J. A. Clark, Sr, February 19, 1889
In this Bill for Partition in the Attala County Mississippi Chancery Court, John P. Marshall, guardian of minors, J. N. Ford, Jennnie S. Ford, and Kitte Wade and adults, Anna B. Ford and W. N. Ford, Jr. petitions for the sale of land in Attala County to be divided among the interested parties and asks the court to command J. A. Clark to provide reasoning as to why the land shouldn't be sold. A waiver by J. A. Clark is included with the bill stating that Clark waives issuance of process and consents to the sale of the land. The bill is dated February 18, 1889 and was filed on February 19, 1889 by H. L. Land, Chancery Court clerk.

Chancery Court Case, J. P. Marshall v. J. A. Clark, August 3, 1889
This handwritten court document includes statements by the Chancery Court Clerk, H. L. Land stating sworn testimony from the publishers of the Kosciusko Star that an included notice for the sale of land was published in their paper for three consecutive weeks. In a separate statement at the bottom of the page, H. L. Land certifies that he has examined the issues stated by the publishers and finds the published notices to have been correctly made.

Court Document, J. P. Marshall Guardian "et al" Versus J. A. Clark, Sr., Decree Confirming Sale, September 9, 1889
This court document addresses the decree confirming sale in the J. P. Marshall guardian "et al" versus J. A. Clark, Jr case in Attala County, Mississippi. The decree comes from the report given to the court by Master and Commissioner, R. B. Webb for the sale of the disputed land. The document provides a land description and states the court has found the commissioner had fully conformed to the terms and conditions of the decree of sale thus orders Webb to deliver a deed to Mrs. M. C. Ford for sixty acres and deliver a deed to J. A. Clark Sr. for twenty acres. The decree was filed September 9, 1889 by H. L. Land, Chancery Clerk and recorded in book "F", page 159.

In this document, R. B. Webb, Commissioner, is authorized and instructed to use the distribution shares in relation to a section of land in Kosciusko, Mississippi to pay the bid of one hundred and seventy-six dollars to Mrs. M. C. Ford and to distribute any remaining funds to Mr. W. H. ford, Sr. as the agent of the authorizing entities. The document is dated April 2, 1889 and is signed by W. H. Ford, Sr., M.C. Ford, W. H. The document is signed by John P. Smith and appears as number 1105. The top and bottom edges are visibly torn.

An unrelated document authorizing W. H. Ford to employ a lawyer to defend his children in any suit brought against them. John Marshall Gordon is the guardian of said children and signed the authorization on Augus 22, 1888.

Adams in his role as Special Master and Commissioner in Attala County, Mississippi, to inform her that he has enclosed a check for two hundred and forty dollars and ninety-five cents as her and her children's distributive for the sale of a lot of land in Kosciusko, Mississippi and asks her to sign the first receipt and return it to him. He further requests that she have W. H. Adams to sign for his share of thirty-four dollars and forty-two cents and lists the others who have a share in the sale and the amount. The back of the page informs that this is a copy of the letter that was registered and forwarded to Mrs. Adams via mail on October 4, 1888 in Sanford Florida.

Attala County Board of Supervisors Order, January 1887
