Bryan Day Reception Committee on Steps of the Governor's Mansion, Jackson, Mississippi
This black and white picture postcard features a group of people gathered on the front entrance steps to the Mississippi Governor's mansion. The group includes two women and seven men. Another man is seated in a chair on the porch area behind the group. The handwritten title in the upper left identifies the group as "Jackson Bryan Day Reception Committee." The donor of this collection has described the people as "Bryan Day Reception Committee with William J. Bryan and James K. Vardaman on steps of Governor's Mansion, with Congressman John Sharp Williams sitting in chair in background, September 1906. Williams gave the "best speech" of the day, it was reported. Vardaman dressed in white with black hat. The back of the postcard identifies the item as a postcard and provides indication for address placement. A green one cent postage stamp is placed in the upper right corner and the card is postmarked Jackson, Mississippi, October 17, 1906. The card is addressed to Miss Lorena Duling in Jackson, Mississippi.

Bryan Decoration Day, Governor's Mansion, Jackson, Mississippi
This picture postcard features the Mississippi Governor's Mansion in Jackson, Mississippi. The mansion is decorated with a large United States flag draped across the rotunda porch. The mansion, itself, is a two story white building with a rounded or rotunda style front entrance with white columns. A black iron fence on top of a brick retaining wall runs in front of the mansion and trees are to the front and sides of the mansion and fence. A description is handwritten along the top of the card that describes the scene as "Decorated for Bryan Day" and M. A. S. is handwritten on the molding along the roof of the porch rotunda. This black and white photograph features a three story house with a turret on the left, a balcony on the second floor, a wide front porch and a long set of stairs leading to the porch. People can be seen standing on the porch and children are seated on the side ledges of the stairs. A tree and a solid fence are on the left and other houses are on the right. A sidewalk runs along the front of the house and a fire hydrant with a hose connected and the streetcar line on the unpaved West Capitol Street are also visible. The donor notes about the image, "On the back of the large photograph is listed in Mr. Moseley’s hand: “Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Moseley, Niles and Lonnie, Tom McAlpin, and Nurse Maggie. Tom is Mrs. Moseley’s brother. He was born in 1871, married Florence Green, and died in 1918, with burial in Jackson’s Greenwood Cemetery. The 1910 Census reveals him living in the Moseley household, with employment as a “mail contractor” and relationship as “brother-in-law.” This image reveals an African American “nurse” named Maggie living with the family, which was standard in the social class the Moseley’s were in."

The center bay is larger, and is fronted by a two-story half-round portico supported by four columns.
